Why a Standard Poodle?

So, you ask, why do I have a standard poodle?  Standard Poodles are one of the most intelligent breeds of dogs.  They are elegant, energetic, loving and loyal.  I have some friends with Standard poodles and the thought of having dogs that don’t cause allergies and don’t shed made me decide to get one.

I have loved every dog I have ever had and they were all rescues.  When my last Dog, Luna, passed I had already decided that the next would be a poodle.  I had grieving time and then I reached the “need a dog” time and I found a breeder with the most beautiful parti poodle pups, so I decided to spend the money.

It was the best decision I ever made regarding a pet.  Stella Blue is the love of my life.  It was a trial, not knowing how to deal with how smart they are, but also how loving and kind and forgiving they can be.  Don’t get me wrong, they are also mischievous.

Poodles need mental stimulation and they need regular activity such as walks and play time. They are great at sports and agility. They are easy to socialize with other dogs and people, especially children.  Most Standard Poodles make great watchdogs and some even have mild, sensible, protective instincts, but they are not aggressive.

Their attitude toward people varies from friendly to politely reserved. Early socialization is important to avoid excessive watchfulness or timidity.

Stella Blue comes from Sisco’s Poodles in Bakersfield and the sire of these pups is owned by Karen Sisco, from Montreal’s Opus Poodles.  This line has a wonderful temperament and has many show dogs in the lines.  Me?  I am not into showing my poodle. She is my pet and the love of my life.  She is smarter than most people and very devoted.
